President’s Statement
As President of the United Korean Diaspora Association (UKDA), I share this from personal conviction shaped through study, reflection, and lived experience.
My faith is rooted in the Judeo-Christian tradition. Through studying the Holy Scriptures alongside historical and cultural context, I have come to a clear understanding of the role faith plays in human life.
I hold deep respect for the traditions of Korea — for the wisdom of our ancestors and the cultural practices that have shaped generations. These are to be honoured and preserved.
At the same time, history is a process of development.
As Christianity entered Korea, it became part of that journey — contributing to the moral framework, inner life, and resilience of many Korean people.
From my study and experience, I distinguish between faith and religion.
Faith is a personal and direct relationship with God — something essential to human nature.
Religious forms, over time, have often developed as cultural expressions shaped by history and community life.
I do not seek to merge different religious traditions into one.
At the same time, I fully respect every individual’s right to follow their own beliefs and practices freely.
Within this department, we focus specifically on the Christian faith in the context of Korean history, culture, and community life.
UKDA remains open to all Koreans, regardless of belief.
We are committed to supporting the Korean community as a whole — with dignity, inclusion, and respect.
UKDA is dedicated to serving the Korean people — addressing their needs, challenges, and development across Korea and the global diaspora.
In a changing world, faith continues to provide many with strength, meaning, and direction.
In some regions, individuals still face challenges in practicing their beliefs freely — and they deserve support, dignity, and understanding.
By honouring both heritage and spiritual development, we build a community that is grounded, resilient, and united.

UKDA 회장으로서, 저는 연구와 성찰, 그리고 삶의 경험을 통해 형성된 개인적인 신념을 나누고자 합니다.
저의 신앙은 유대-기독교 전통에 뿌리를 두고 있습니다. 저는 성경과 역사, 문화적 맥락을 함께 연구하며 인간 삶에서 신앙의 역할에 대한 명확한 이해에 이르게 되었습니다.
저는 한국의 전통과 조상들의 지혜, 그리고 세대를 형성해 온 문화적 유산을 깊이 존중하며, 이는 반드시 존중되고 계승되어야 한다고 믿습니다.
동시에 역사는 발전의 과정입니다.
기독교는 한국에 들어오면서 이러한 흐름의 일부가 되었고, 많은 한국인의 도덕적 가치와 내면, 그리고 삶의 회복력 형성에 기여해 왔습니다.
저는 연구와 경험을 통해 ‘신앙’과 ‘종교’를 구분합니다.
신앙은 하나님과의 개인적이고 직접적인 관계이며 인간 존재에 본질적인 요소입니다.
종교의 형태는 역사와 공동체 속에서 형성된 문화적 표현으로 발전해 왔습니다.
저는 서로 다른 종교를 하나로 통합하려 하지 않습니다.
동시에 모든 사람이 자신의 신념을 자유롭게 따를 권리를 존중합니다.
본 부서는 한국의 역사와 문화, 공동체적 맥락 속에서 기독교 신앙에 집중합니다.
UKDA는 신념과 관계없이 모든 한인에게 열려 있습니다.
우리는 존엄성과 포용, 존중을 바탕으로 한인 공동체 전체를 지원하는 데 헌신합니다.
UKDA는 한국과 전 세계 디아스포라에 걸쳐 한인 공동체의 필요와 과제, 발전을 지원하는 데 전념하고 있습니다.
변화하는 시대 속에서도 신앙은 많은 사람들에게 여전히 힘과 의미, 방향을 제공합니다.
일부 지역에서는 여전히 신앙의 자유가 제한되기도 하며, 그들은 존중과 이해, 그리고 지원을 받아야 합니다.
전통과 영적 성장을 함께 존중함으로써 우리는 더욱 단단하고 연결된 공동체를 만들어 갑니다.
